Dr. Julian Christians

Physiology and Genetics

Dr. Julian Christians is a professor at Simon Fraser University in the Department of Biological Sciences. He arrived at the University in 2006 following postdoctoral work at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Throughout his career, he has studied the genetic and physiological mechanisms that contribute to diversity within species working with mice, humans, fish, fungi and birds. His more recent work focuses pregnancy- the fetal and placental responses to suboptimal environments. His research furthers into how the prenatal environment affects health in adulthood and the ways in which responses and long-term effects differ between the sexes. Dr. Christians work examines both the mechanistic basis of responses, as well as the evolutionary forces that have shaped them.
