Protein Biochemistry
Laine Lysyk is a Senior Research Scientist at Future Fields, an Edmonton-based biotech startup. They are focused on producing recombinant proteins for the cellular agriculture industry using fruit flies! Her background is in protein biochemistry, having completed both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biochemistry at the University of Alberta. Her scientific background includes five years of professional research experience in a laboratory setting in both Canada and Germany. She has had the opportunity to work on several research projects with numerous research teams - ranging from cell-biology to protein biochemistry and biophysics. Having grown up in rural Alberta, she believes it's very important to have programs like these that offer networks and opportunities for students who are interested in STEM to explore fields they may never be introduced to otherwise.
